Its message has an elevating undertone: a brother’s love and solidarity that can defeat the forces of evil. The love between brother and sister is everlasting, protected by a higher, spiritual realm. They represent the order within the world’s chaos. Hansel cannot exist without Gretel and Gretel cannot live without Hansel. Together they are a single character. Each of them take turns in leading when the other is in danger. Like most Nordic tales, the forest is a significant space, full of mysteries and dangers. However, this dark forest full of evil spirits and demons always has a meadow, an island of hope. It is an ambivalent space.

Written by Hans Christian Andersen, The Ugly Duckling is still one of the most beautiful stories about coming of age. A swan egg accidentally ends up in a duck’s nest, so out of this egg emerges a larger, an “uglier”, a different kind of “duckling” than any of the others. Being the object of all the shenanigans, pranks and ironies, the little swan has no other choice than to run away from this world, nurturing the hope that one day he may find a better place for himself.
Can our little swan persist through all the perils of the wilderness and the meddling of others? Let’s find out together. All we can say for now, is that some pleasant surprises await him as spring arrives.
In a barren and dark castle, where every little thing is black, there lives a witch together with her tomcat, named Alfonso.
Bothered by the fact that the tomcat becomes invisible in the black castle, the witch uses her magic in order to change Alfonso in a green tomcat. His life gets suddenly worse: he cannot longer sleep on the couch because now he can be seen, he cannot longer climb the chandelier because he is caught, he cannot longer sneek into the bed because he is chased away into the garden, … in the green garden we may add!
Outraged, the witch changes the colour of his fur again, she makes it multicoloured, such that now he looks like a parrot.
Poor little tomcat! He takes off in a far tree at the edge of the garden, where chattering birds, of all types and colour, laugh at him. The tomcat sobbs tremendously, melting the witch’s heart, who is now embarrased by her doings.
Then the witch removes the spell and the tomcat is happy again. In order to avoid the troubles again, a last spell changes the gloomy and dark castle into a multicoloured one.

While maintaining the narrative and the key moments, I still consider that the prologue is the turning point of the show – the building and the shattering of the mirror, the scattering of the distorted pieces and its reassembly in the end – all these constitute a spectacular literary cohesion.”

Inspired by his newly acquired talent, the Valiant Little Tailor sets out into the world to seek his fortune and brag about his power, “cause it’s not easy to kill seven flies with one blow”. And since heroic acts were indeed tailored to his personality (which he found out while trying to defeat the two giants: Baby Giant and Enormous Giant) in the end he realizes that his true power lies within the sharpness of his mind and his wit. The two giants would have crushed him, if our little hero hadn’t figured out some clever and brave strategies to get himself out of trouble.
So on his way back home, overjoyed about his second victory, he cheerfully says to everyone he meets: “in life wit is more important than height!”.

Written by Ion Creangă, The Old Woman’s Daughter and the Old Man’s Daughter is still one of the most appreciated tales for children and parents alike. The road to Saint Sunday and the encounters with fantastic creatures like the Dog, the Pear Tree, the Well and the Oven are illustrated scene by scene in the play with the same title, directed by Angelica Pamfilie. By respecting the original storyline, the show takes children and adults on a wonderful journey of discovery about altruism and humility, about good and evil.
The play is featured in Studio Puck, a project which includes a series of theatrical productions designated for unconventional spaces (kindergartens, schools, clubs) and which encourages a different kind of collaboration between the artists of the Puck Puppet Theatre.
