Jancsi és Juliska egy reggel arra ébrednek, hogy édesapjuk bejelenti: vásárra kell vinnie a kiskecskét, hogy adósságait kifizethesse. A búslakodó gyerekeket Csipet, az erdei manócska lepi meg, aki egy titokzatos versike segítségével kincshez juttatná két kis barátját. Történetüket a Vasorrú Bába bonyolítja, és bár Csipet manó és Döme mackó mindent megtesz a gyerekek megmentéséért, végül Juliskának sikerül megszabadulnia a gonosz szipirtyótól. A kincs is megkerül, édesapjuk, a szegény favágó is boldog, hiszen rátalál elveszettnek hitt gyermekeire.
